How Does a New Life Begins?

Introduction

The purpose of this webquest is defining life to begin with is hardly straightforward, but for the purposes of this question we mean "human life," and more specifically we mean the life of an individual human being, as "life" in general only began once, and has existed continuously since the dawn of the first cellular organisms billions of years ago. Hence, this is more a question of "when does personhood begin?" for a particular person, rather than any definition regardingabiogenesis. This question is crucial to a number of complex ethical debates regarding abortion, premature births and, at the other end of the spectrum, brain-dead patients. It is almost as complicated as defining life itself. Ultimately, it is not a question of science, but of moralitypolitics, and ethics.

Birth

After an embryo has developed into a fetus, it readies itself for birth. It is then born into the world as an infant. This stage lasts for three years. The most development occurs in this first part of the life cycle.

Childhood

From ages three to twelve, humans experience the stage of childhood. For these nine years, humans develop psychologically and physically

Adolescence

The teenage years, also known as adolescence, are those in which humans develop sexually. This is when sex organs mature, and hair grows on more parts of the body as a result of hormone development.

Adulthood

Adulthood is usually the longest lasting stage in the human life cycle, stretching from age 20 to 50. By age 35, adults are considered "middle age" until they become mature adults.

Life's End

From ages 50 onward, mature adulthood finishes off the life cycle. If humans live beyond age 75, they have entered into "late adulthood". Death is the end of the life cycle

Process

A New, Distinct Human Organism Comes into Being at Fertilization

It is undisputed that a new, distinct human organism comes into existence during the process of fertilization. Scientific literature states the following:

• “The fusion of sperm and egg membranes initiates the life of a sexually reproducing organism.”

• “The life cycle of mammals begins when a sperm enters an egg.”

• “Fertilization is the process by which male and female haploid gametes (sperm and egg) unite to produce a genetically distinct individual.”

• “The oviduct or Fallopian tube is the anatomical region where every new life begins in mammalian species. After a long journey, the spermatozoa meet the oocyte in the specific site of the oviduct named ampulla, and fertilization takes place.”

• “Fertilization – the fusion of gametes to produce a new organism – is the culmination of a multitude of intricately regulated cellular processes.”

The government’s own definition attests to the fact that life begins at fertilization. According to the National Institutes of Health, “fertilization” is the process of union of two gametes (i.e., ovum and sperm) “whereby the somatic chromosome number is restored and the development of a new individual is initiated.” Thus, in the context of human life, a new individual human organism is initiated at the union of ovum and sperm.  One textbook similarly explains:  Human development begins at fertilization when a male gamete or sperm (spermatozoon) unites with a female gamete or oocyte (ovum) to produce a single cell – a zygote.  This highly specialized, totipotent cell marked the beginning of each of us as a unique individual.

Thus, a new human organism is created before the developing embryo implants in the uterus – i.e., before that time at which some people consider a woman “pregnant.”

Conclusion

We usually says that life is short so we must treasure every moment of our life. Our life begins when egg cell and sperm cell unite and through that an embryo will form until it become fetus in the womb. And the mother will carry the baby for nine months. Until it delivers and see the world. The baby will grow until she/he will pass the stages of being a child, adolescence, adult, old age until he reach his/her death.

We are so much thankful for giving us this opportunity to make our own webquest page. Because of this we become aware on how to create this kind of resources that could help a lot in our journey in field of teaching. Eventhough we encounter difficulties in preparing this webquest, still we find the way to make it easier for us through the help of educational technology.
