6th Grade Moon Phases Project

Introduction

Have you ever noticed that the moon changes its size? Sometimes it even seems to completely disappear. With that being said, we will be reading about the phases of the moon in class. We will learn key vocab words as well as turn in a project that will show off  what you will have learned at the end of the section.  While working together in groups, your projects will split workload evenly between each student and each group will have a different way to educate the class about the phases of the moon. Task

There will be four groups of four and each student is responsible for their own key terms which is located in the process tab. After completion of the key terms, students will utilize our book as well as computers as resources to obtain their information for the project. The project is different for each group.

Group 1: Moon Phase Booklet

Group 2: Moon Phase Poster Board

Group 3: Moon Phase Calendar

Group 4: Moon Phase Pamphlet 

 

Process

Each student in the group must do the following.

Draw a picture next to the key terms.

Group 1: Moon Phases Booklet

Students will be given: construction paper, scissors, glue, tape, stapler, and coloring utinsils

Requirements: the booklet needs to have 10 pages each containing a picture. 1 title page and a conclusion page with all group member's names. Be creative and make sure each moon phase is a part of the booklet.

Group 2: Moon Phases Pamphlet

Students will be given: construction paper, scissors, glue, tape, stapler, and coloring utinsils

Requirements: the pamphlet needs to have 10 flaps long each containing a picture and a definition. On the back, put all group member's names. Be creative and make sure each moon phase is a part of the pamphlet.

Group 3: Moon Phases Poster Board

Students will be given: Poster Board color of choosing, scissors, glue, tape, stapler, and coloring utinsils

Requirements: the poster board needs to contain all the phases of the moon as a diagram of how the moon orbits the earth. Each phase needs a picture and definition. Group members names should be put on the back of the poster. Remember be creative and make sure each moon phase is a part of your project.

Group 4: Moon phase Calendar

Students will be given: Poster Board color of choosing, scissors, glue, tape, stapler, and coloring utinsils

Requirements: Use the https://stardate.org/nightsky/moon

The group must agree on a month from 2017 and utilize this website to help you figure out the moon phases for the month. Then use the poster board to create a life size moon phase calendar. Each date should have a picture of the moon and a label of it's phase. Be creative and don't forget any moon phase. Each student in the group needs to put their name on the back of the poster board.

Conclusion

You should now know what is expected of you by the end of this section. Depending on your group number, you will each have requirements noted in the process tab. For any other questions, feel free ask me in class. I will provide adequate time to work on projects in class and I want each student sharing the work load.
