Abolitionists

Introduction

For our history fair project we created a webquest. This webquest will inform you on several Abolitionists such as our roles today. You can look at lots of websites on these people.

Task

First, we will introduce Harriet Tubman, a slave who helped 300 slaves to freedom. Today, Harriet is represented by Riley Stanek. Harriet was a slave on the Maryland east coast. She was born as Araminta Ross and adapted her name Harriet from her mother Harriet Ross and she got the last name Tubman from her husband John Tubman. Harriet was a slave who risked her life to help many other slaves to safety through the underground railroad.

Tubman was nicknamed "Moses" after the bible because Moses helped lead people to freedom as did Tubman. When you left with her, there was no going back. She would not let this happen because if they went back, they might tell someone about the Underground Railroad or they might be beaten until they told.

Harriet had one daughter, Gertie, who she adopted with her second husband, Nelson Davis, after the Civil War had ended.
