All About the Mitosis

Introduction

All About Mitosis

We are studying cell reproduction and the phases of Mitosis. Mitosis is one type of cell reproduction in organisms. We are going to dive in and grab visual images of The phases of Mitosis to display for the school. Let's explore and see how each phase works.

Task

The class consist of Biologists viewing body cells under a microscope as they go through the different phases of Mitosis. During the observation of the body cells under the microscope, you are being asked to describe in details the key concept of what is taking place and also help with a visual aid to show what is actually being viewed under the microscope as the cells go through each phase.

On a four or more poster boards, each group is required to show each phases of mitosis and list three key points to describe about each phase.

After the creating the posters to display, each individual biologist is required to answer short questions of the cell reproduction during Mitosis.

Process

1.   The group will review past science notes and attached websites and videos on the different phases of Mitosis to become better familiar with different phases.

2. The group will review the requirements of this project in the evaluation section of this web quest, to better familiar with the expectations required to complete project.

3.   The group creates poster boards (at least 4 boards) visualizing the different phases of mitosis and three key points describing what is taking place during this phase.

4. The group will review over poster boards before presenting to class and describe what is taking place.

5. All students will answer a short question quiz on Mitosis and its phases for a daily grade after reading page 15 in Integrated Science book.

Conclusion

Reflection Questions:

1. What is Mitosis?

2. What is the purpose of Mitosis?

3. What is are phases of Mitosis and the acronym to help remember the phases in sequential order?

4. Is Mitosis a short or long process?

5. Give an example of two examples of Mitosis.

This web quest is created to embed technology with reading and writing within a lesson for my students in my inclusion class. I thought of a way to get my students some hands on training with the phases of mitosis since we are studying this now inside the classroom. The student will create visual to be able to see and understand the different phases of mitosis.
