Introduction
Now you will become scientists! You will do research on your assigned animal and learn your animals every move! The first question you need to ask yourself is what habitat does this animal come from? Remember, this assignment you will be doing a lot of research to learn about your animal and the habitat it lives in.
Your research will take you about 5 days and will be due on the 6th day. We will have Monday -Friday to work on it in class. And you will complete the finishing touches over the weekend and will be presenting your projects on Monday.
Your presentation will have to answer the questions I will give to you and include a diorama in a shoe box of your habitat including your animal.
Also, find out what can be done to keep your assigned habitat prosperous and what causes try to protect these environments from becoming extinct. Include the effects of the habitat from cutting down trees, building buildings, pollution, acid rain, toxins, etc. Make your classmates aware of the dangerous to the habitats wildlife and how it will affect the circle of life in that habitat.
Grade: 2nd
Standards:
Observe and describe major stages in the life cycles of plants and animals, including beans and butterflies.
Compare and contrast the basic needs that all living things, including humans, have for survival.
Recognize and explain that living things are found all over Earth, but each is only able to live in habitats that meet its basic needs.
ISTE 1. Research and information fluency
- Plan strategies to guide inquiry
b. Locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media

Task
Now you will have to answer these questions while doing you research
ANIMAL
Is the animal you’re researching endangered? Overpopulated? Explain.
What does your animal use to defend itself? (spikes/sharp teeth/camo/etc) Explain.
What type of skin/fur does your animal have and why? Explain.
Is the animal a herbivore or a carnivore? Explain.
Does this animal live by salt water or fresh water? Explain.
Is this animal a predator or prey? Explain.
Does this animal hibernate? Explain.
Is this animal nocturnal? Explain.
Explain what happens when mothers care for their babies.
HABITAT
What is the temperature of this habitat? Summer, spring, winter and Fall
How do animals adapt to their habitat?
What kind of waters are in this habitat? Salt or fresh water
What is the approximate amount of rain in this habitat?
What is the humidity /dressiness level of this habitat?
What kind of pollution has the habitat your researching suffered and what can be done to fix the existing problem? What should your classmates be aware of about the habitat you are studying in order to keep it prosperous?

Step 1: Assign an animal
Step 2; What habitat does this animal live in ?
Step 3: Answer all questions about animal and habitat.
Step 4: Make a final Draft, written neatly and typed answering all questions
Step 5: THE FUN PART! Creat diarama with shoe box - Include the habitat and animal in the diarama. Go to Dollar store, use twigs and leaves from outside, go to craft store or even use old unwanted toys! Be Creative!
Step 6: Prepare for presentation! Practice at home how you will present your project, be sure you are knowlegebable on your research while presenting.
Step 7: Presentation DAY!
Conclusion
At the end of this lesson you will have learned about diffrent habits and the animals that live in them. You will be aware of the dangers and pollution that effect these habitats and what can be done to prevent loosing these habitats. You will develop an appreciation for the land we live on and the variaty of landscapres there are in this world. You will have done research on an animal and its habitat and will present it to class with a diarama teaching your classmates about your findings. Have fun with this project and be creative !
