Let's Measure!!!

Introduction

Welcome to Ms Ani's 3rd Grade Classroom!!!

Teacher Objective:

-Students will identify and understand what measurement is and how to use it in real life.

-Students will use rulers and measuring tapes to measure different objects around them.

-Students will work with their classmates, list and explain different measuring units and where and how they will use it.

-Students will complete several worksheets in order to be ready for a test.

California Common Core Standards:

         Measurement and Data

-Solve problems involving measurement and estimation of intervals of time, liquid volumes, and masses of objects

        -Represent and interpret data.

        Geometric measurement:

-Understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and to addition

-Geometric measurement: recognize perimeter as an attribute of plane figures and distinguish between linear and areas measures.

Task

Welcome my Lovely Students!

Lets begin our lesson :)

WHAT IS THE MEASUREMENT FOR???

Please watch the video titled The Measurement Song to learn about the different measurement units

A little reminder!

You are not alone. You can always ask a buddy or your teacher for help if you can't solve any problem.

HAVE FUN!!

See you on the next slide

Process

Hello again my lovelies,

To complete this lesson, we need to work on different activities and worksheets to get one step closer on exploring and understanding measurement units, which are one of the most important lessons in math and will stay with you throughtout your WHOLE life yaaay!

Below are points to remember as we go along, please pay attention:

1. Lets think how we use measurements in life

2. Look around! Identify different objects and put them in order from smallest to largest (in your mind)

3. Get a ruler or measuring tape and measure things around you

4. List the measuring units (as you learned from the video) and where you would use them

5. Can you give me two examples of measurement units?

Now Watch this video

Let's discuss all these steps!

A LITTLE ACTIVITY:

-Think about some objects that can fit in this four categories: Tiny, Small, Medium, Tall/Long

-Open up your journals and write down some objects that you came up with

-Go over your list and check with the teacher

-Compare you list with two of your classmates and write down the similar objects

Good Luck!!

See you on the slide.

Evaluation

Good Job Lovelies!

Next step is completing the worksheet, which will help you get ready for the upcoming test

Here are some worksheet to work on. Please take your time and do your best.

Once you are done, please come up to me so we can go over your questions together!

Conclusion

Well done everyone!

We just concluded out lesson about mesurement and different measurement units!

I hope you had fun exploring different objects and measuring them with your measuring tapes and rulers.

Lets all watch this 10 minute that will give us more understanding of our lesson

Bloom’s Taxonomy

  • Know-Students list different measurement units, identity and describe what they are used for, recite and record their findings in their journals.
  • Comprehend-Students will give examples of objects and measure them using measurement tapes, will review and summarize their examples with their classmates.
  • Apply-Students will relate the objects around them with their everyday lives, will use the objects to demonstrate measurement units, and will show their understanding when working on the worksheets.
  • Analyze-Students will compare, contrast and relate their findings with their classmates or partners
  • Synthesize-I will construct and create different worksheets to help he students organize the measurement units and become more familiar with the lesson.
  • Evaluate-I will rate the students’ understanding of the lesson by giving them different worksheets to practice and a test. I will conclude my lesson by playing a short funny clip that will help them remember the material easier.
