Around the World in 80 Days!

Introduction

Wrote by Jules Verne in 1873, Around the World in Eighty Days narrates the intrepid adventure of Phileas Fogg around the world. Fogg travelled from Europe to Asia, up to North America and more.

This is just a novel, but what would you say if I told you that you could travel the world in 80 days and learn about new languages and cultures? Tempting, right? Well, let's go for it!

Task

In order to explore the world and learn about foreign languages and cultures, you will embark in the adventure of traveling like Phileas Fogg. However, it is clear that the world has changed since 1873 and so have the means of transport.

In groups of six, each team will be responsible of 'traveling' one of the continents that Fogg went trough: Europe, Africa, Asia, North America. Using modern means of transport, such as airplanes, each team will have to create a wiki with their travel proposal and a presentation of at least two of the languages that we could find in that country.

Process

To complete the task you will have to follow this process:

1) Choose a continent.

2) Roles. The group will be divided into two teams: team A, responsible of finding out the means of transport, and team B, responsible of analyzing the different languages and cultures of the continent. In both groups, each student will have a specific role, such as the searcher (who will look for information) or the writer (who will be writing down all the important information).

3)Organization. After collecting all the information, team A and team B will share the information and they will organize it according to its appropriateness to the topic.

4) Wiki. All together, you will have to create a wiki with your travel proposal that will include the means of transport, using the information you have effectively organized. The wiki will also include a presentation on at least two of the languages present in the continent of your choice.
