Introduction
Hello Future Pet Owners,
Do you know how dogs are different and what separates them from another dog?
Well, you are in store for a TREAT! In this WebQuest you will be taken through the process that comes with Artificial Selection Breeding in dogs!
Remember to have fun with these lessons and try somethings that may be different from your partner.
Task
Your task is to use the Artificial selection of dog breeds link that will be provided, and you must follow these steps once you have gotten to the site: https://www.coop.co.uk/insurance/hub/crossbreeds
- Click Discover Cross Breeds
- Create a Google Doc
- Create 3 different dog breeds through the Artificial Selection link
- Explain what dog breeds you crossed
- After each creation write 3 physical features that makes that breed unique
- You should have 3 different breeds with 3 physical features described about each of them
Process
Step 1: Use the link provided and then click the "Discover Crossbreeds" Button
Step 2: You will create a google document and label it "Crossbreeding Dogs Notes."
Step 3: Using the website, you would then create 3 unique dog breeds that seem out of the ordinary. As you do so be sure to take notes on: What Species you used and create a prediction on how you think the dog breed will look. Once you have done this you can then say if you were correct on your predictions or not correct.
Step 4: Once you have created these species you would then write down 3 physical characteristic examples that each breed presents differently from the others. Some examples of the features you can write down would be size of the animal, color, ear shape, long snout or short snout and eye color.
Step 5: Short summary 3-5 Sentences on what breed was your favorite and why.
Step 6: After gathering all the information, you will then create a PowerPoint and be prepared to do a 5-minute presentation on your findings. This assignment is due Thursday night at 11:59pm and will be presented Friday morning.
Evaluation
Your presentation will be evaluated and graded based on if you provided:
-Types of dogs used for the 3 new breeds
- If you have created 3 different breeds
- Explanations
- Organization and clear examples of different physical features presented
- Short summary on which one was your favorite breed and why

YAY!!! You did it!!! Now you guys have created a dog breed that actually exists and could possibly own in the future!!! Disclaimer: If you are to own a dog that is known for being Artificially Bred and Selected be sure to research the health risk and factors that the specific breed comes with. Hopefully this WebQuest was interactive, and you had fun creating different breeds that you do not commonly see out in public!
