Baseball

Introduction

The game of baseball has long been a cherished pass time all over North America. It is said to have been invented by William R Wheaton and William H Tucker.  The game is considered a bat and ball game in which someone throws a ball and another person attempts to hit the ball with a bat propelling the ball out into a diamond shaped field, the opposing team in the out field then tries to catch the ball with specially designed gloves.  The player who hit the ball then attempts to run counter-clockwise around the inner part of the field.  Situated along the diamond shaped track are four white bags, three of which are called bases and one that is called home plate.  The runner can stop at any of the bases if he or she thinks they will not make it to home plate without getting out by being tagged by a player with the ball in their glove or a player with the ball getting to a base before them.  Concerning some rules that do not pertain directly to the actual play game they are as follows.

*The visiting team always bats first.

*If the ball is hit out of certain bounds it is considered a foul ball and the batter will have to retry.

*The Umpire's (Referee's)word is final.

The game of base ball has no game clock.  Instead the game is divided into innings.  One inning consists of both teams players bating.  The rules to the batting procedure are as follows.

*Three strikes(swings that miss the ball) and your out for the inning

*Four balls(balls the hitter decides not to swing at) and you walk to first base with no danger of getting out.

*If the ball is hit outside of the white lines parallel to first and third base it is considered a foul.

All in all the point of the game is to get to home plate without getting out.

Now that we have talked about the basic rules of the game we will talk about the basic techniques that are used in the game.

Task

To educate the reader on two basic baseball skills.

Process

Let's start out by talking about some basic bating techniques.  Probably the most well known is the traditional swing.

As you can see this is a fairly generic swing, but this is not the only swing.  The next swing we will look at you might not even think of as a swing.  The bunt is a swing where the batter does not really swing!

These swings both have their advantages and disadvantages.  The regular swing is great for long distance hitting while the bunt is better for short shots that take the fielding team by surprise!

The next important technique is the pitch.  The basic pitch is difficult at the best of times but with practice you get better.

The basic throw LOOKS REALLY SIMPLE, but can be tricky.  However once you have mastered the basic pitch you can start using these really cool grips to throw of the batter.

These techniques though somewhat subtle, can really change a baseball game.
