Biographies

Introduction

Welcome to your Webquest assignment on biographies.

Grade Level: 4

Curriculum: English/Language Arts

By: Ms. J. Adamson

Task

Your tasks today are as follows:

1. Browse a variety of biographies. Choose people that you’re interested in.

2. Look at the details that are in biographies (each biography will have some of the same information, what is it?)

3. Using this information, you are going to create a biography of someone in your family. You will have to interview them to ask questions.

Process

1. Click on this link https://kids.britannica.com/kids/browse/index/biography#/b/b/1 to read some biographies. There are a lot of people to choose from. Read at least 3-5 to get a good understanding of what facts and information are in a Biography.

2. Take notes of information that is included in a biography.

3. Watch this video https://youtu.be/IUHP3fdBQJw

4. Use a biography template (below) to help organize your ideas/thoughts.

5. Decided who you would like you write your biography on (parents, grandparents, guardians, etc).

6. Write or type down a list of questions you are going to ask your person. Sometimes it’s easier to record their answers to the questions. This way you can go back and listen to it.

7. Start writing! Create a one page biography and submit it by the end of the month.

A great way to independently learn about biographies. I’ve written this lesson for Grade 4 but can be modified for grades 3-5.
