Introduction
During and following the American Civil War, the Federal Government began to develop and implement strategies to develop the lands out west. At the center of the land development was the Great Plains region of the United States. Today we normally refer to that region as the Mid-West. Your task will be to visist the websites that are dedicated to the various policies and strategies to develop western lands during the later half of the 19th century (1800's).
