Introduction
Movie trailers are designed to tease you just enough to make you want to pay to watch the advertised movie. These excerpts are usually drawn from the most exciting, funny, or otherwise noteworthy parts of the film but in a shortened form and usually without producing spoilers. Often music accompanies images and narration that sparks an interest in the show. A good movie trailer excites a potential moviegoer without giving away the climax of the film. Your task will be to create the same excitement for a story you read this year!
Task
You will produce a book trailer using one of the stories you have read this year.
Your task is to create a book trailer for the novel you read, using persuasive elements and devices to persuade your audience to read it.
Represent the book in a powerful and interesting way that makes us want to read it without giving the entire story away! Your trailer can use video, music, sound effects and images to help tell the story of your novel. In the end, your trailer will be viewed by the students
Your trailer should include the following:
-
Name of the story your trailer is advertising. Begin with something like, "This year I read the story...."
-
Include at least three sentences or words such as ‘Their Biggest Adventure”, “A Challenge she never Imagined, Just when you least expect it.
-
Use events of greatest interest from the story that will compel people to want to read your story, but don't give away the ending.
-
Use lots of good images to help draw your classmates in.
-
Add music to reflect and enhance the mood of the story. Be sure narration is louder than your music.
Process
1. Begin by deciding which story you will build your trailer around, and then gather the following information.
- Introduce the book: Includes the title, the author’s name and the genre.
- Tell about the book: Introduce the main characters and action. Don’t try to tell every detail.
- Tell about your favourite part of the book or make a connection: Persuades the audience to read the book and leaves the audience wanting to know more. For example, explain what the main character has to overcome but don’t tell if he/she is successful.
2. Create a script for your trailer.
3. Brainstorm backgrounds and settings you will use in your video.
4. Your trailer should be from a minute to maximum 3 minutes in length.
