Captain Conjunction, What's your function?

Introduction

Captain Conjunction is a new superhero in town. He is small just like you but is very powerful. He has come to save planet sentence from falling apart to their doom. Can you help Captain Conjunction save planet sentence?

Task

Okay future superheros, you will work in groups to learn more about conjunctions and their functions. Each group will be given a mission by Captain Conjunction to complete. You will have questions, videos, and websites to help guide you along the way. The mission will help you learn how to use your super powers in order to save planet sentence. Once your mission is complete, you will create a class presentation on the functions of conjunctions.

Process

Lets begin our quest to save planet sentence...

Before you all begin you will be put into groups of three. This will be your super team. You all will be completing a important mission to save planet sentence. Be sure to work together. 

1. To begin your mission lets listen to a song to learn about what conjunction's function.

2. Games, Games, and more Games! This part of the mission requires you to play four games. These games will help you get a better understanding of how to use conjunctions to save planet sentence. 

Note: Once you click 'Play' you must click 'Lesson' to begin the games. Be sure that every superhero completes all the games.

3. Watch out for Dr.Evil! He is a villan who blows bubbles to destory planet sentence. In order to defeat him you must choose the correct conjunction bubble to complete the sentence. Team conjunction to the rescue!

4. It may take more than just super strength to complete this mission. You need some MONEY. In order to obtain some money you must change from Rags To Riches.

5. Is anyone afraid of heights? Now that you have some money you can fly in the sky with a monkey! With the monkey's help you will create complete sentences in the sky. 

Note: Once you click Play you must click 'Match the Correct Sentences Using Conjunction' to begin the game.

6. Your almost finished saving planet sentence. You must now print off and complete the worksheets on link 6, 7, and 8 to show what you have learned during this mission. Once you are finished turn in the worksheets to Captain Conjunction's sidekick...your teacher.

Note: Every superhero needs their own worksheet. So, be sure to print off three of each worksheet.

Conclusion

Now that you have completed all of your task planet sentence is saved, yay! You should now have a good understanding of what the function of conjunctions are. Captain Conjunction wants you to know that he is very proud of all your hard work and he couldn't ask for any better super teams. You all are great superheros.

This WebQuest was used to teach 1st and 2nd graders the functions of conjunctions. It will allow the students to use their imaginations to learn more about conjunctions. They will be put in a superhero scenario with a group of fellow classmates. This WebQuest will also encourage teamwork. They will be tested on their knowledge of conjunctions through interactive ativities online, three print off work sheets, and a class presentation. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
