Cement Manufacture Process

Introduction

This is a material, which should help to learn, how cement is manufactured. It is important to know, how it happens because we use cement in out everyday life, for example, for renovating the house or building something new.

This is a video material. It is easier and more productive to learn from a video, because the theory and examples are told and showed at the same time. Good luck, I hope that everything will be fine!

Task

Watch this video about cement manufacture process and later answer to the questions.

This video has no sound (except the nice music), so you can watch it when other people all around, for example in the lesson without disturbing other students!

Process

Answer to these questions about the video:

  1. What is the first stage of cement production process?
  2. What is the modern type of crusher?
  3. What is the material storage and what happens in there? Try to explain, how you understand it!
  4. How does the desired raw meal chemistry affects the flow rate?
  5. What is the grinding system arrangement known as and what does it do?
  6. How high is the temperature at the stage 5 and what happens there?
  7. How is the product of the pyroprocessing called?
  8. What happens at the bag house?
  9. Where is the ground cement conveyed after the bag house and what is the total capacity of those things?
  10. What is the Autoloeader responsible for?

Evaluation

Answers to the questions:

  1. The first stage of cement production process is the exploration of limestone mines, overburden removal, drilling and blasting.
  2. The modern type of crusher is known as the impact crusher (with crashing capacity 2000 tonnes/h).
  3. The material storage is a mixing bed, where the crushed material is conveyered to.
  4. The flow rate of each raw material to the grinding system is controlled by means of three weigh feeders. These are proportioned according to the desired raw meal chemistry.
  5. It is known as the vertical roller mill (VRM). The VRM simultaneously provides for drying, grinding and seperation of materials into fine particle sizes in the range 90 to 120 microns.
  6. Two string ILC cyclone is preheated there and the process allows to the material temperature to rise to about 890 degrees, C.
  7. It is called clinker.
  8. The mixture of air and cement dust is collected there, then they are seperated, the de-dusted air is either vented to the atmosphere or recirculated into the mill as the mill heat demand allows.
  9. The ground cement is conveyed to cement silos. The total capacity of those is 20000 tonnes (10000 each).
  10. It is responsible for the arrangement of cement onto trucks for dispatch.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have completed the first step of understanding how cement is manufactured! If you now think that it is fun and easy, I highly recommend learning more, because you will definitely benefit from it. One way, how to learn more about this, is watching more youtube video like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-Pr1KTVSXo, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VABa8BbvOpc and other materials that you can find!
