Climate Change: What Is It And What Can We Do?

Introduction

Climate change and global warming is no longer a myth--it's a painful truth that is threatening every part of our planet from our oceans to our atmosphere. The good news is that it's not too late to make a difference--in this Webquest you'll explore the causes and effects of climate change and end by drafting solutions and ideas that you and others can utilize!

This Webquest is focused around NGSS MS-ESS3-3: Apply scientific principles to design a method for monitoring and minimizing a human impact on the environment.

Task

Task 1: Answer the following questions below:

1) What is climate change?

2) What causes climate change?

3) What is the ozone layer?

4) What are 3 effects climate change can have on Earth and the things that live on it?

5) What are 3 ways you can fight climate change?

Task 2: Watch the following video on climate change. Keep notes on 3 things you learned from watching it.

Task 3: Once the video is done, go to the following website and choose one of the Big Ideas. In groups of 1-3 students, read through your Big Idea and take notes of the KEY POINTS of your Big Idea.

Evaluation

Almost done! With the knowledge you've obtained from the video and the NASA Big Questions, create a Google Slideshow with your groups. Be sure to include the following:

[  ] The names of your group members

[  ] A summary of what Big Question you researched

[  ] Ideas for how to fight climate change

[  ] Pictures and graphics related to your topic

You will be presenting these Slideshows to me and your fellow classmates, so please rehearse your presentation and include all of the information listed above.

Conclusion

Nice work! Hopefully this Webquest and the included activities gave you some ideas about what you as an individual can do about climate change! For your Exit Ticket, think of and list three ways you, your family, and your friends can fight climate change. Check out this video for some inspiration!
