Colonial Region Research Project

Introduction

It is the late 1600's in England.  You are cold and hungry.  You have heard many stories about America, and you want to start a new life there.  You must choose the best place for you and your family.  Where should you settle?

You will work with a partner or group to research one of the 3 colonial regions. You will create a presentation to advertise your region for new settlers.

Task

To attract settlers to your region, your presentation will need to include information about resources, environment, and opportunities there.  As you work through the unit, gather facts about the region you have chosen and record your findings on the research handouts.

Each group member will have a role.  These roles will be determined by your group.

Roles:

The Stage Setter:  This person will describe the region (climate, geographic features, natural resources)

The Systems Speaker:  This person will describe the system of government, economy and religious beliefs of the people living in the region

The People Reporter: This person will tell about the people who lived in the region and the role they played (slaves, Native Americans, immigrants, details about daily life.

Process

As a team:

1) Decide which region you will research

2) Decide what each team member is responsible for.

3) Research and record information on provided organizer (Use this link <iframe src="https://www.symbaloo.com/embed/mrscohenswebmix?" name="_symFrame" width="960px" height="640px" frameborder="0" noresize="noresize" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>

Conclusion

Congratulations!  You finished! Now it is time to reflect:

1) Did you enjoy this project?  Was it effective in learning about the different regions?

2) Which resources were most effective? Which resources were not helpful?

3) After learning about each region, where would you prefer to live?
