Cyber bullying

In this WebQuest, students will utilize the Internet to find information regarding cyberbullying. Students will pull together all the information they find to put together a poster or PowerPoint presentation exploring the different elements of cyberbullying. 

Introduction

Cyberbullying is an important issue that has been discussed and seen on the news many times in the past few years. Living in a tech-savvy world, it is very easy for people to communicate through emails or messages, and although it is very helpful, there are those who use it to hurt others. We are around technology all the time, but we are not all aware of the damage that it could do to us. I want you to use this opportunity to educate yourself and others about Cyberbullying and how one could prevent it.

Answer the following questions with your partner: 

  1. What is cyberbullying?
  2. How does cyberbullying occur?
  3. How frequent does cyberbullying occur?
  4. What does one do when they are a victim of cyber bullying?
  5. What are some steps in preventing cyber bullying?
  6. How can one protect themselves on the internet?

 

Part 2:

Create a poster or PowerPoint addressing the following questions so you are able to present it to the class.

As part of your presentation, you are going to create a fictional scenario of a victim of cyberbullying. You are to ask the class what they would do in the situation. You will assess whether the steps the class took to solve the problem was correct or not.

  1. We will discuss the importance of safety on the internet and how it affects how we use technology everyday.
  2.  Students are paired with a partner for this assignment.
  3. With your partner, use the Internet to answer the topic questions on paper or Microsoft Word:
  • What is cyberbullying?
  • How does cyberbullying occur?
  • How frequent does cyberbullying occur?
  • What does one do when they are a victim of cyber bullying?
  • What are some steps in preventing cyber bullying?
  • How can one protect themselves on the internet?

 

       4. Using your answers from #3, create a PowerPoint/Poster that addresses these questions,  as well as any other important information you have learned about cyberbullying.

       5. Create a fictional scenario about a victim of cyberbullying. Use information you have learned about to create the most realistic scenario you can think of, so you are able to ask the class how they would go about helping the victim.

Material was not presented clearly, only one partner talked, and no visuals were present.  Presented material somewhat clearly, partners didn't share time in sharing, no visuals. Presented material clearly most of the time, partners took turns, and some pictures/videos were used. Presented material clearly, with partners taking turns talking, and pictures/videos.props correlating to topic.   
Fictional Scenario Scenario did not relate to topic and no assessment of class response.  Scenario relates to topic somewhat, and assesses class response incorrectly. Scenario relates to cyberbullying and assesses class's response with some incorrect feedback.  Scenario relates to cyberbullying and assesses class's response with correct feedback.
