Penguin Life

Introduction

By Dawn Astleford

Many people say that pengins look like little men in tuxedoes. They are rather classy in their sharp suits if black and white.

Task

Today we are learning about the lives of penguins. By the end of this class period you will know where penguins live, what they eat, and other interesting facts about them. Here is a question to start you off: Do penguins only live in ice and snow?

Process

Find a partner and answer these questions:

  1. Can penguins fly?
  2. What do Penguins eat?
  3. What eats Penguins?
  4. Where do penguins live?
  5. What is the scientific name for an penguin?

Below are some links that you may find helpful to answering your questions.

When you are done gathering the information you need for answering the questions, create a penguin booklet out of the construction paper that you will find on my desk. Use stapplers to keep the pages together. Make a tital page and on each page answer a different question. Use at least one illustration (you may draw by hand, or find a picture in a magazine).

Evaluation

The way I will grade this is:

10 points

1 point for tital page

1 point per question (except 2 points for question # 4)

1 point for illustration

1 point for neatness

1 point for Group Participation

Conclusion

Now you know more about penguins! Did you learn anything new today? So, now you know the answer to the question at the beginning of the assignment: "Do penguins only live in ice and snow?" They don't! Isn't that crazy! They live in Africa, too!

I looked at a website for WebQuests and got some ideas for what to do form this website: http://warrensburg.k12.mo.us/webquest/koalas/index.htm

I got the booklet idea from there. Other than that, I got the questions from my brain.
