Working with your group, you will explore reliable online resources to learn about natural disasters that commonly affect the Philippines, such as typhoons, earthquakes, floods, and volcanic eruptions. You will investigate their causes, effects, warning signs, and appropriate safety measures.
Your goal is to use the information you discover to develop a practical disaster-preparedness guide that could help people in your community stay safe before, during, and after a disaster.

Task
Your Mission:
You and your group will become Disaster Preparedness Specialists. Your mission is to research a natural disaster that can affect communities in the Philippines and create a practical Community Disaster Preparedness Guide.
Process
Step 1: Form Your Team
Work in groups of 3–5 members. Assign each member a role:
- Researcher – finds important information from reliable websites.

Step 3: Conduct Your Research
Using the teacher-provided websites and other reliable online sources, answer the following questions:

- Where and when does it commonly occur?

- What warning signs or alerts should people watch for?
- What should people do before the disaster?
- What should people do during the disaster?
- What should people do after the disaster?
- What emergency supplies should families prepare?
- Where should people go or whom should they contact during an emergency?
Record the websites you use and identify the information you obtained from each source.
Step 4: Analyze the Information
Do not simply copy information from the websites. Discuss with your group:
Which safety measures are most important for families in our community, and why?
Compare information from at least two reliable sources and identify recommendations that are consistent across the sources.
Step 5: Create Your Final Product
Create a Community Disaster Preparedness Guide using Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint, or another available tool.
Your guide should include:
- Name and description of the disaster
- Causes and possible effects
- Before, During, and After safety procedures
- Emergency kit checklist
- Emergency contacts or evacuation information
- At least one map, diagram, photograph, or illustration
- Sources/references
Make your guide clear, accurate, visually appealing, and easy for an ordinary family to understand.
Step 6: Present Your Guide
Each group will have 5–7 minutes to present its guide to the class. Explain:
- What you learned about the disaster
- The most important safety measures
- How your recommendations could help your community
- Which online sources you used and why you consider them reliable
Final Challenge
At the end of your presentation, answer this question:
“If this disaster happened in our community tomorrow, what are the three most important things every family should do to stay safe?”
Your answer should be supported by the evidence you gathered during your WebQuest.
