Ecotourism

Introduction

In this webquest students will learn about the assets as well as the possible downsides to ecotourism.

The impacts of mass tourism have been taking its toll in many countries but is ecotourism the best answer?

Task

Students are divided into 3 groups of three. Each group will researcs a certain aspect of ecotourism.

Group 1 : Students will find out

   - What is ecotourism?

   - History of ecotourism

   - Financial benefits for conservation and local people

Group 2:  Students will research

   - Ecotourism principles in action

   - The benefits of ecotourism to the environment

Group 3: Students will find out about

   - Negative impact of ecotourism

After the first part of the process has been finished, students now proceed  to the second part where they are requested to create a power-point presentation.

Each group creates its own presentation reviewing all the information they had gathered on their specific  topic.

Evaluation

The final evaluation can now be conducted as both webquests,“Negative  impacts of tourism“ and „Ecotourism“, have been finished. It will be conducted in the form of A CON AND PRO DEBATE in front of the class as a jury.

The jury will choose the winner of the debate by voting according to specified parameters:

   - well researched

   - shows comprehension of topic

   - makes good argument

So, apart from learning about the impacts of tourism, students will also learn how to hold a debate.
