ED210 - Webquest World Climates

Introduction

Good morning class! Today we are going to be going on an adventure around the world! We will be looking at different climates from around the world and compiling information. To do this we will have to do some research. We will be gathering this research together for a paper that we will write in the upcoming weeks.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to use online platforms to research climates across the world, compile your findings into a document, and cite sources in order to make an outline in the next lesson.

Task

We will be looking at how climate differs around the world. There are about five different types of climates that are found on earth which are:

  • Tropical (Hot and Humid)
  • Dry (Little Precipitation)
  • Temperate (Moderate Precipitation, Warm Summers, Cool Winters)
  • Continental (Cool Summers, Cold Winters)
  • Polar (Freezing Weather)

To familiarize yourself with some different climates, watch this short video.

Process

Here is where we will start to research different climates for ourselves. For this next activity, you will research each of the five climates (Tropical, Dry, Temperate, Continental, and Polar) and compile your notes on the google document listed below.

Make a category for each climate and compile a list of attributes that each climate has (remember to cite any websites that you gather information from). Remember to also include where in the world these climates are found and if they are close to the equator.

Here is a list of websites from which you may gather your research!

Evaluation

Based on the research you have compiled, describe what climate you live in. Is it freezing cold like in a Polar Climate or maybe you could go for a swim like you could in a Tropical Climate!

Tip: Think of what the weather looks like all year round in your region!

In this document, describe the climate of where you live, and give evidence to support your answer. This should be 3-5 sentences long.

Now that you have described what your climate is, you are going to draw how that climate typically looks! Remember to include details that are typically found in your climate! Use the link below to draw your climate!

Conclusion

So far, we have looked at how different climates are seen in different areas of the world, researched, and compiled our sources. You should now be able to identify which climate you live in as well as describe other climates that are found around the world. You should also have a document where your research on these climates has been compiled. In the next lesson, we will use the research you have compiled to start to form an outline for our research paper on the different types of climates found throughout the world.

Keep exploring!
