EN4HOSTS - EASTER EGGS – MEANING AND RECIPES

Introduction

Your task for this webquest is to design an Easter cookbook with an introduction dealing with the meaning and origin of Easter egg and then a section dedicated to Easter recipes (from starters to desserts) using egg as an ingredient or for its typical and symbolic shape.

Task

Your task for this webquest is to design an Easter cookbook with an introduction dealing with the meaning and origin of Easter egg and then a section dedicated to Easter recipes (from starters to desserts) using egg as an ingredient or for its typical and symbolic shape.

Process

STEP 1: LOOKING FOR INFORMATION

  1. Firstly you need to find out information about the origins and meaning of Easter eggs;
  2. Secondly you should find out information about precious eggs and chocolate eggs, egg games and traditions around the world
  3. Thirdly surf the net and look for recipes including eggs as an ingredient or as a shape (starters, first courses with egg as ingredient or as sauce, second courses/main courses, desserts).
  4. Then you have to find out the nutritional values of eggs and chocolate that are the main ingredients of Easter recipes and prepare a PowerPoint presentation.
  5. Finally you have to decide what colour and layout (even division in chapters and paragraphs) you need to create and print your book.

STEP 2: PLANNING YOUR BOOK

In groups of three, you will work together to design your Easter cookbook. Each group will choose one of the following points and fill out the worksheets explaining the basic idea of the cookbook you are designing. Look for pictures to insert in your book both for the introduction and the recipe section.

Group 1: origins

Group 2: Faberge eggs

Group 3: easter egg traditions

Group 4: starters and first courses recipes

Group 5: main courses and desserts recipes

Group 6: nutritional values of eggs and chocolate

STEP 3: PRINTING YOUR BOOK

Once each group has completed its assigned part using the links provided, the students work together to create a layout for the cookbook, including all the points requested, and then … PRINT YOUR EASTER COOKBOOK!

WELL DONE!  YOUR EASTER COOKBOOK IS READY!

TASK 2: USING YOUR BOOK

Work in group and pretend to be at conference for presenting the book titled “The meaning of Easter egg”. Each member of the group should perform a different role: the historian (who will tell about the origins and meaning of easter egg) , the chefs (that will explain some recipes) , the food scientist (who will give information about the nutritional values of eggs and chocolate using a PowerPoint presentation) and the public that should ask questions for the experts.

After having used your cookbook, write down in the worksheet if you have found it useful and complete or if there are any points which need to be improved in order to make it a better work tool .

Your work is done … Thank you for participating!

Evaluation

STEP 4 :  EVALUATION

Using the knowledge that you have gained during this activity, write down a conclusion explaining:

  • your choices related to the content (for example the differences and similarities of easter traditions around the world);
  • the main problems you had to cope with, in order to make your book clear, well structured and easy to read.
