Excavation Extravaganza!

Introduction

Hello, paleontologists! When planting some new trees in the recess yard our landscaper Mr.Brown discovered a buried treasure chest with some ancient fossils inside! Someone must have stolen them from different museums and hid them away. These fossils are evidence of life before humans, and are very valuable. Before we send them back, we need to be able to identify what organisms we have found and where they lived, so that we know what museums they are missing from. Mr.Brown has asked specifically for your help, since you are the brightest fifth graders he knows!

Task

I have assigned each group to one of the fossils Mr.Brown found. Your task is to use the different sources I have given you to research what type of animal fossil you have found and where it lived. Once you have gathered some information on your fossil, you will draw a picture of what you think your animal looked like, inside the environment you think it is from. Once you have done this you will present your fossil and drawing to the class, explaining why you think it is that animal and why you think it lived in that environment.
