Famous African Americans from North Carolina

Introduction

This WebQuest is designed to inform students about the historical accomplishments of African Americans in North Carolina. While working as a team students will research various African Americans associated with North Carolina. Students will visit websites that include a biography of each person and will respond to questions.  After each member has researched their assigned person they will collaborate on a Google Slides Presentation and share the information they learned. This WebQuest was designed by Jenna Beckham for Lesson 4 Option 1.

Task

Students will work in teams of 5 to research the following famous African Americans associated with North Carolina:

  1. Harriet Jacobs
  2. John William Coltrane
  3. Charlotte Hawkins Brown
  4. Franklin McCain
  5. Thomas Day

Each team member will choose one person from the above list to research.  After visiting the websites and answering the questions teams will create a Google Slide Presentation to showcase the information they discovered.
