Sunshine State Standard: PE.7. L.4.5 - Identify health-related problems associated with low levels of cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and body composition.

Let’s learn the benefits of exercise and ways you can get physical fit! You will travel through three resources provided and your mission is to discover the answers to the questions provided.

Task

By the end of the assignment you will have more knowledge on the benefits to exercise, types of exercises, and disadvantages to a sedentary lifestyle. 

As a child, you have more energy because of your youth! Participating in physical activities will help maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout life. Due to the fact that you are young, you most likely exercise at home or school rather than in gyms. Exercise is even a huge component of recess! Before you begin, find a partner and discuss your current lifestyle and write a paragraph reflecting on the conversation. 

After writing your reflection paragraph, visit these websites and read with your partner.

Process

Step 1: Write a paragraph reflecting on your conversation with you partner regarding your current lifestyle. 

Step 2: Visit the websites in the task section and read the webpage with your partner.

Step 3: You will type your work all on a shared Google doc document. 

Step 4: Answer the following questions according to its source.

Resource 1: 
1. How many minutes should students your age perform exercise?
2. What should students your age limit?
3. What are a few benefits to exercise?
4. What are a few health risks of sedentary behavior?

Resource 2:
1. What does aerobic activity strength and improve?
2. What are four examples of fun aerobic exercises?
3. What does strength and aerobic exercises help improve?
4. How many days a week should students ages 6-17 include muscles strengthening activities?

Resource 3:
1. What improvements does physical activity do for academic performance?
2. What can physical activities reduce in the long-term aspect for health?  

Step 5: After answering the questions with your partner on the shared Google docs, discuss ways you could improve your current lifestyle.

Evaluation

This rubric is how I will grade your assignment. Please review the rubric to perform to the best of your ability regarding to see what I am asking for you to complete in this WebQuest. In order to complete this WebQuest successfully, you must answer 8/10 questions correctly according to this rubric.

Conclusion

Overall, you should be more familiarized with the benefits of physical activities, the definition of sedentary living as well as the dangers that follow it, and fun exercises you could implement in your own daily life. 

After visiting the different websites and reviewing the information, rate yourself on a scale of 1–10 to determine where you are in your fitness right now. What are your strengths in terms of health and fitness? What areas do you think you could improve?
