Grade 2 Meteorology Project

Introduction

* Introduction: The Task section is where the teacher motivates students to want to work through the learning process for completion the final product. The subject of the webquest is defined and roles are identified. (Pinantoan, 2013).

 

Grade 2

Meteorologist 5 Day Weather Forecast

Your new job title is Cleveland, Ohio Meteorologist. You get to work through the experiences of researching and creating tools for determining weather patterns, the possibility for severe weather, and a projected 5 day forecast.

 

Task

* Task: The Task section details exactly what is expected of the students. Some resources or examples may be included for students to view before beginning (Pinantoan, 2013). 

 

You will work with your group to collect information on effective ways for predicting weather for the upcoming 5 day forecast. You must identify group roles and and work as a team to determine the necessary tools needed to identify weather patterns that will be forming in your region. Each member of your group will create one necessary weather tool and report 3-5 facts about each, totaling 4 weather tools. Your final project will be a 10 minute meteorologist broadcast that includes your predicted 5 day weather forecast. Each member will also take on one specific role when creating your broadcast.

You may identify roles based on student interest and abilities.

Process

* Process: In this section, the teacher provides the students with steps that are to be completed in order to develop the end product (Pinantoan, 2013). 

* Resources: The teacher provides a list of acceptable and useful resources that students can use while working towards the finished product (Pinantoan, 2013). 

 

Grade 2 Earth and Space Science Standards:

Changes in energy affect all aspects of weather, including temperature, precipitation amount, and wind (Ohio Department of Education, 2018). 

* STEPS THAT YOUR GROUP WILL WORK THROUGH:

  • Learn about the tools used to determine weather patterns-Choose 4 needed tools
  • Research creative ways to develop each tool- Use these resources to create 4 weather tools (one per group member)
  • View examples of kid meteorologist broadcasts in order to begin planning yours-Identify roles and begin working together to create your own broadcast.

Evaluation

*Evaluation:  In the Evaluation section teachers will present the rubric that will used to assess all students on the overall project. The expectations should be clearly identified so that students are well informed of the expectations and possible total points (Pinantoan, 2013).

Conclusion

* Conclusion:  In the Conclusion section students and/or the teacher can answer questions regarding the webquest project. They may answer them directly on the webquest page or on another format (Pinantoan, 2013). 

Each group member must answer the following questions on the Google Classroom form and submit it at the conclusion of your project.

2. What do you think you could have done better individually and as a whole group?

3. What is one interesting fact that you learned throughout this project?

4. Describe one thing that you are interested in learning more about related to weather and meteorology?
