Health Fad

Details

 Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse is a detoxification diet that is simply drinking lemon or lime juice, water, maple syrup and Cayenne pepper, without eating or drinking anything for 10-45 days. Stanley Burroughs, who started the health fad in 1941, has been promoting it ever since. It is said to relieve the body of toxins. The lack of vitamins can give your body headaches, fatigue and constipation.

Tapeworm

Diet

The Tapeworm diet consists of swallowing a tapeworm pills, and wait till its job is done and take medication to get rid of it!This diet was introduced in the early 20th century, but was banned because it was VERY dangerous.

Chew And Spit

In the early 1900's, Horace Fletcher invented the way of chewing any food exactly 34 times, one for each tooth, and not swallowing it. He said it was because you can then taste the food, but not gain the fats. But the problem is that you do not get all the goodness, such as fibre, because you have to spit it out.

Beer and Ice Cream Diet

The Beer and Ice Cream diet consists of eating and drinking beer and ice cream, as  it would take longer to digest so you would'nt get fat. For example, if you were having pizza and beer, they say to follow it right up with ice cream, as it would slow down digestion, so you supposedly wouldnt take in as much as you normally would!?!?

Cabbage Soup Diet

The Cabbage Soup diet is when you eat as much cabbage soup as you can for about seven days. this particular diet was very popular in the 1980's. The cabbage soup diet has no protien, but it has been said that it would be good in a diet with more choices!

Task B

1. The Master Cleanse diet is marketed by books and on Youtube. The Cabbage diet is advertised and commented on Facebook. The Tapeworm diet is advertised on Facebook, YouTube and some other places.

2. The Master Cleanse diet is marketed on Youtube, and this is the address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgTZDwx2fbc. The Cabbage Diethttps://www.facebook.com/cabbagesoupdiet. The Tapeworm Diet: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=tapeworm+youtube&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl…

3. Because one of the advertisments is by a famous person, or because people have said or commented good things about it.

4. Because lots of people and scientists have proved it wrong, and lots of people say its very bad for you.

5. Probably the cabbage diet, because you only have to take it for about 10-45 days.

6. The Tapeworm diet, because it is said that it can kill you, because I would hate a worm inside of me.

7.For the Cabbage diet, you don't get the fibre and protein that you need to have a healthy body. The tapeworm diet is bad for you because it eats all the good nutrients from your food before your body can digest the good stuff. The Master Cleanse diet is bad for your body because it does not give your body the good vitamins and minerals it need to stay healthy.

Task D

The Sun Fad makes your skin tan and is exposing you to the sun's Ultra Violet rays. You get skin cancer from doing this a lot. And the Phentermine is a diet drug which makes you lose weight rapidly, but when you stop taking the drug, you put the weight right back on.

For the Sun Fad younger women usually want to have their skin tanned so they look good. Phentermine is usually addictive to people who were once fit and healthy, and now they are fat or overweight, and so that they can feel fit and healthy again.

Some of the side affects for the Phentermine are nausea, migranes, fainting a lot, rapid beating of the heart. For the Sun Fad, ultra sunburn, extreme tanning of the skin and feeling sick from the sun burn.

Tanning of the skin is telling the body that the cells are in trauma. You also age a lot faster, so you could die at 60 or even 50. Even when your out for a couple of hours, you are literally cooking yourself.

The Phentermine is only meant for if you are in lots of trouble with your weight, and for a short period of time. It is meant to be combined with exercise and a diet.

Task E

Conclusion

Conclusion:

In this assignment I have learnt about how Health Fads effect people and their lives, and how most health fads are ok short term, but are very bad over long periods of time.

Companies promote their health fads by selecting sports or television celebrities to recommend a particular product, and this encourages people to be swayed by the celebrity perhaps more than the product itself.

I think that a good way to promote long term health benefits is to have a diet full of fresh fruit and vegies and having a balanced diet which would include small amounts of protein (meat products). This strategy would also include particpation in sporting activities or at least regular exercise.
