Introduction
Hi students! Today we are going to learn about the sounds that letters make using the computers. On this Web Quest you boys and girls will be my private investigators and help me match the letters of the alphabet with their sounds. There are different videos, songs, and games that you can choose from to learn about the different letter sounds. By the end of the Web quest everyone should have learned some new sounds that letters make.
**This Webquest is designed for Kindergarten age children and willl require a parent or teacher to guide them through.

Task
Students will learn about the various sounds the letters of the alphabet make through online games and videos. They will then have the option to:
1. Go on a picture walk and take pictures of certain objects that have the same beginning sound as the letter of their first name and then make a collage with those pictures
OR
2. They can choose between three different worksheets to work on in class that deal with matching the letter to the object that has that beginning sound or filling in the missing letter.

Teacher Page
For an easier way for the students to navigate through the site there are pictures paired with the word with the link adjacent to the picture. (i.e.; a music symbol for the song or a little video camera for the video).
Resources:
The resources are ordered from
most simple to most complex:
1ST ACTIVITY:
This video offers clear and concise flash cards that
include the upper and lower case letter, a picture
of something that letter starts with,
and what the picture is.
2ND ACTIVITY:
This video is a song. The song shows the letter, sings
you the sound it makes, and shows you a picture
of something that starts with that sound.
3RD ACTIVITY:
This video is a song that encourages students
to get up and dance. The video shows the letter
and the singer in the video instructs the students
to do something that goes along with the letter,
like D for drive and the children can pretend to
drive around in the car.
4TH ACTIVITY:
This is a matching game that has three levels: easy,
medium, and hard. The students are supposed to
match the letter cards to the sound cards.
The sound cards include the picture and the word.

**After exploring the Web Quest, the students who choose to will go on a picture walk. These student will be assigned a letter of the alphabet that they will have to investigate and find objects that start with that specific letter and sound. Each of them will have their own disposable camera to take pictures of the objects that they find. Once back in the classroom, the students will make a poster displaying their pictures and foam letter that they were assigned with so they can present it to the class.
PROCESS:
- Students will use the various tabs and link in the Web Quest to learn about the different sounds the letters of the alphabet make and what words start with those letters or sounds
- After learning through the Web Quest the students will discuss in a group the different letters and letter sounds they learned about or found interesting.
- The teacher will then assign each student a specific letter that they will need to know the sound of.
- The entire class will go on a “picture walk” outside with their own disposable cameras where they will have to take pictures of various objects that start with their letter and sound.
After the “picture walk” the students will each make a collage with the 3-5 pictures they took as well as the pictures they found in magazines and will put thier foam letter on their poster to present it to their classmates.
**As another choice there are 3 different worksheets available that assses letter sound correspondence knowledge with varrying levels of difficulty.
1st Worksheet- On this worksheet there are four pictures and each picture has 2 letter choices and the students are instructed to circle the letter that the picture starts with.
2nd Worksheet- On this worksheet there are 6 pictures and 6 letters and the students are instructed to find out which picture starts with which letter and write the correct letter under the picture.
3rd Worksheet- On this worksheet there are 4 pictures with the word underneath omitting the first letter. Students must rely on the sounds they hear alone to decide what letters the pictures start with and them write the letter at the begining of the word.
