Introduction
Human beings communicate with others through different and unique expressions of art
For this Unit of Inquiry the students would be asked to understand the following:
Diversity: Every person has a distinctive way of expressing emotions, ideas, values, you just have to be perceptive to understand what and how they are communicating it.
Self-Expression: The final idea of art is to communicate and express, thus any form of art is communication. We all have our own individual ways of expressing who we are, how we feel, what we need or want. This way can be considered art most of the times.
Perception: Any form of communication is unique to the person who expresses but also unique to the person who receives. This expression can be canalized then perceived through different channels.
Task
Lines of inquiry:
-
People have distinctive and unique ways of expressing their feelings, beliefs, and ideas,
-
Expressions of art as a way of interacting with others,
-
People receive and interpret other people’s messages in communication.
Task 1 - After visualizing these videos on Edmodo (code jn42ny), reflect on the following questions. Write down your personal thoughts on your Reflection Journal.
Conceptual:
-
What does art mean to you?
-
What do we want to achieve through art?
Factual:
-
In how many ways do we express ourselves?
-
What different channels can you notice communication coming from?
-
What are the possible barriers to communication?
Debatable:
-
Is it my vision of life the same as my classmates? What do you think makes it so divert and unique?
-
What is your own personal way of communicating feelings, beliefs and ideas?
Task 2 - After visualizing the videos at home, you will discuss in groups the thoughts you kept on your Reflection Journal and share it with the other members of the group. The whole group would agree on 3-4 final opinions, ideas and feelings on the inquiry lines assigned to each group and write them on a big newsprint that would be hanged on the wall.
Work in groups of 4 on the assigned inquiry questions:
- Group 1: Conceptual Inquiries
- Group 2: Factual Inquiries
- Group 3: Debatable Inquiries
Task 3 - With the final ideas, each group would present it in front of their classmates, and a group debate will unfold where different points of view would be exposed, listened to and discussed.
Be critical and honest with your ideas, we want to hear your unique voice and opinion.
