The human body rollercoaster

Introduction

This webquest is designed as part of a series of lessons on anatomical terminology.  You will be asked to model any part of the human body in the form of an amusement park ride.

Task

STEP 1: Choose any part of the body to discuss. Think about the brain, the digestive system, the heart...

STEP 2: Get going.

You will submit a poster or model of your amusement park ride. Also, prepare to briefly explain your poster.

  • The poster/model must include:
    • Your name
    •  A neat, creative, colored drawing of the ride with at least 9 points of interests or stops that will make up the ride. These attractions are listed on the presentation
    • Each attraction should be given a name that leaves no doubt about what part of the digestive process it represents (e.g. “The “Stomach Squeeze” or the “Large Intestines Loop”).  A point of interest does not necessarily need to be part of the ride.  It could include an educational video or may even be a snack bar. For example, folks might stop at the “Pancreas Picnic Park’ for lunch
    • The ride and the leaflet together must be able to educate visitors about the part of the body that is discussed.
    • The ride must “flow” in a logical sequence through the digestive system.

Process

1. Research the chosen part of the body. Make sure you understand its function(s). Rely on the vocabulary from previous lessons.

2. Give some thought to the layout of the poster/model. You can use whichever program you like (PowerPoint, Paint...) or use any website you like (Canva...)

3. Come up with a preliminary design for your ride. Have the design approved by the teacher before you begin the final design. Ask for feedback.

4. Finish your human body amusement park ride.

Evaluation

Think about the following requirements:

  • POSTER/ MODEL: a poster usually contains a lot of colour, drawings...
  • NEATNESS AND CREATIVITY: depict each point of interest clearly and neatly. Show effort towards creativeness.
  • CONTENT: your description is complete. A good deal of thought was given to every aspect and everything is explained clearly.
  • SCIENTIFIC ACCURACY: your description is correct.
