Human Body Systems

Introduction

This lesson will allow students to explore the human body and give a better understanding of the human body, systems and organs.

Objectives:

Student will Identify the main functions of the systems of the human organism, including the circulatory, respiratory, skeletal, muscular, digestive, excretory, reproductive, integumentary, nervous, and endocrine systems.

Students will know the main purposes of each of the body systems and what the main parts of each.

Students will understand how each system is reliant on another.

Subjects

English Language Art/Science

Grades: 7

Task

Students will get into groups of 5-6 students. Each student will pick one body system, there are six systems: Digestive, Respiratory,Muscular, Skeletal, Nervous and Excretory.

Each student will do research and answer multiple questions on the body system they chose.

Questions

1. Where is the body system located?

2. What is the function of this system?

3. Why is this system important?

4. What organs make up the system?

Activity: After each group has gathered their research, they will have the chose to present to the class about their body system. Students can present by powerpoint, poster, or brochure. Students can be as creative as they like and have access to technology.

Process

Instruction for students:

Research

Step 1: Teacher will place students into groups.

Step 2: Discuss with team which body system you all will like to do research on.

Step 3: Use any technology to gather research (phone, computer, tablet).

Step 4: Answer research questions on the selected body system and turn into teacher.

Step 5: Complete a "brain storm" sheet with thoughts and ideas. On this sheet write down how you will present to the class.

Presentation

1. Students will present to the class the body system they chose.

2. How will you present? Who is responsible for what in the group presentation. Put together the presentation. All members must participate. There will be individual grading as well.

Evaluation

Teacher will put together a rubric for grading.

Students will be graded on: Terms, summary on the body system and how it works with other systems, presentation, participation, works cite.

This is how your work will be evaluated.
