Intention - will and going to

Introduction

Communicative purpose: Telling a plan or something to do of someone.

Expressions of Intention :

Hi, my name is Sasha. I am going to have a long holiday next month. It will be about two weeks. My family and I are going to go to Hongkong. We are going to spend five days there. We have planned a trip to Hongkong since January. Have you been there?

Hongkong is my first place abroad that I will travel to. I am so excited about it. This month we will arrange our trip itinerary. So, after school I’ll browse some places to visit. I’ll also watch some Hongkong travel videos.

Hongkong Disneyland is a place that will be put in our first list. I love almost all of Walt Disney’s movies. Besides, we’ll also go to Macau because my mother really wants it. I am sure we’ll have so much fun there. What about you, where are you going to go when you have a long holiday?

Future Tense for Intention :

a. Will

Pola kalimat lengkapnya adalah: Subject + WILL + Infinitive

Contoh:

Our uncle will visit us next Sunday.
He will not come to the meeting tonight.
I am sure Billy will call us soon.

Untuk menanyakan niat atau rencana:

Will you come to my house tonight?
Will you please post the letter for me in next season?
Will you have some more coffee for latter?

b. Be going to

Pola kalimat lengkapnya adalah: Subject + To Be + Going To + Verb 1/Infinitive

Contoh:

His older brother is going to be a doctor next year.
I am going to leave tonight.
They are going to the market next Sunday.

Untuk menanyakan niat atau rencana:

Is she going to buy a new car next week?
Are you going to apply for the job today?
Am I going to have dinner with him tonight?

Perbedaan Will dan Going To:

Will: memutuskan untuk melakukan sesuatu tepat saat kita ucapkan (spontan).

Going To: sudah merencakan sesuatu sebelum kita ucapkan (sudah direncakan).

What are you going to do this weekend? Hhmmm, I actually haven’t had any plan yet. My brother and I will probably visit our sister on Saturday. We will go there by a motorbike. Our sister has a new-born baby girl, our niece. The baby will be about three weeks old this weekend. She is so cute and chubby. We also have a five-year-old nephew. He is a super active boy. He likes to create things and to play soccer. He will play and do creative activities with me. Then, he’ll play soccer with my brother. He’ll be so happy playing with us. In the afternoon, my brother and I will go swimming in the pool at a hotel near my sister’s house. We’ll do a swimming race. We love swimming. If my brother has nothing to do on Sunday, we’ll probably stay overnight at our sister’s house.
