Invertebrates

Introduction

Invertebrates are animals that don't have a vertebral column. Most animal species on Earth are invertebrates. Some of them, such as insects, have got an exoskeleton; others, like the jellyfish, have got a hydrostatic skeleton. There are several types of invertebrates: porifera, cnidarians, annelids, molluscs, echinoderms and arthropods.

Task

Vertebrates vs. Invertebrates

A Venn diagram illustrates what two or more groups have in common. Learn how to create a Venn diagramm by comparing and constrasting the characteristics of vertebrates and invertebrates.

Process

1. Investigate the web and find out what animals are invertebrates.

2. Watch and learn more about invertebrates.

3. Watch a video and learn how to create a Venn diagram.

Evaluation

1. Complete the table

Anthropod Parts of the body Numbers of legs Numbers of antenna Example
1. Insects Head, thorax and abdomen                    2
2. Cephalothorax and abdomen             8                  0
3. Miriapods
4.                10                   2

2. Unscramble the letters and write the name of each animal. Then write the name of its group and tick wether it's vertebrate or invertebrate.

  Animal Group Vertebrate Invertebrate
1. riget
2. ebe
3. shif
4. lesmus
5. nekas
6. silna
7. gesnop
8. chotris

3. Venn diagram.

Conclusion

"Our world is built on biology and once we begin to understand it, it becomes a technology."
