Introduction

Complete this webquest about the following topics: Jim Crow Laws, The Scottsboro Trials, and The Great Depression. All of these historical events/periods will connect to our reading and understanding of To Kill A Mockingbird.

1.  Go to your Google Drive.  Click on New and then click on Google Docs.   Your answers will be placed in this document and saved as YourLastName.TKAMWebQuest.

 

Step 1: FIRST SITE:

  Look at the photo and write down your comments. 

                     a. Describe the emotions that this photo creates. In other words, what do you feel when you see this photo? How do you think others feel when they see it? 

                     b. How would you describe the feelings of the man in the photo? What do you think his daily concerns are? 

                     c. Do you think the photo is an example of racial discrimination?  Why/Why not?

       c.  Please read the "Why Two Girls Made the Change" and write a brief summary in your own words.

  a. Please watch and listen to the "Scenes from "The Scottsboro Boys."  

b. Write your reaction to the musical.  Why do you think they presented the way they did? Were you                surprised? Why or why not?  Be prepared to talk about the scenes with the class.

Step 5:

          a.  Take some time and look through the photos from The Great Depression. 

          b.  Get an idea of what life was like during this time period.

          c.  Choose three pictures that interest you and place them into your document. 

           d.  Assume the role of that person and write a letter from his/her perspective about life during the Great Depression. Include information from the site, such as  how people lived during that time period? Jobs, money, traveling, etc...
