Task

By the end of the lesson you will be able to order in a Spanish restaurant with the natives of Spain. You will also be able to read and understand a menu in a Spanish restaurant. As a result, by the end of this unit there should be no language barrier in a restaurant context due to the fact that you would have learned the related vocabulary and essential structures to communicate effectively.

Process

  • Research during 10 minutes about: Spanish food and how this is normally organized in menus from different restaurants.
  • Take notes of any information that is interesting for you.
  • Then, you will create a menu for a Spanish restaurant (hard or electronic copy) that meets these requirements:
    • Restaurant's name
    • Sections (appetizers, main dishes, desserts, drinks)
    • Illustrations of the dishes
    • Price of each dish
  • Lastly, pair-up and decide your role: Waiter/waitress or customer. With the basic structures previously learned and the designed menus, recreate a role-play in a restaurant, including:
    • Customer: ordering food and drinks, ask for the bill, give the right amount of money
    • Waiter/Waitress: Take notes of the dishes, serve the food, bring the bill, give change if necessary.
