Le Monde Francophone

Introduction

The term le monde francophone (or 'the french-speaking world') refers to countries where French is designated a national language OR who have a large population of people that speak French.

L'organisation internationale de la francophonie (OIF) was created to represent these French-speakers and promote the French language.

  

In this webquest, you will explore some of the Francophone world and discover the breadth and power of the French language.

Task

Step 1: Complete a treasure hunt for specific information on the OIF and certain countries.

Step 2: Create a presentation on a Francophone country to present to your classmates.

Process

Step 1: Complete a fact sheet on the French-speaking world and populations (you will find this on your google classroom).  Use the indicated websites below to guide you to the correct information.

Step 2:  Choose a French-speaking country (you must get it approved by your teacher).  Then, use the assessment description (found on google classroom) to create a presentation for your classmates to inform them about this specific country.  Useful websites to aid your research are listed below.

Evaluation

You will present your country to the class and it will count as a summative grade (this is a speaking presentational task).  As this is in ENGLISH, the emphasis is on the quality of information presented and your presentational skills.  You need to turn in your completed graphic organizer as part of this grade.  Also, make sure to cite all your sources (including pictures/videos).  You will be graded on the following rubric.

Presentation: My product is visually appealing and includes some visual/audio elements that enhance my presentation.

 

Communication: I communicate my presentation to my audience with limited use of notes and decent eye contact.  I speak clearly and am easily understood.

 

Culture: I present accurate cultural information with some detail.  When appropriate, I make some comparisons to my own culture.

 
Conclusion

The purpose of this task is to help familiarize you with the Francophone world as you move forwards with your French studies.  This webquest and project are to raise awareness that there are French-speakers around the world with varying cultures, traditions, and beliefs.
