Let's Learn The Days of The Week!

Introduction

Let's learn the days of the week! Being able to identify what day it is will help give our students a better understanding of their weekly lives. Students will learn how to correctly place the days of the week in order and identify which day of the week it is, what day comes next, and so on.

Your job is to follow along the lesson plan as we go through Sunday, Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Process

What I Will Do:

We will start our days of the week learning with a book called Cookie's Week written by Cindy Ward. During the reading I will stop and ask the students questions about the book, such as "What day of the week is it?" and "What happened to cookie on this day?".

Summary of the book: Each day of the week is introduced as Cookie the cat completes disastrous activities on each day.

What We ALL Will Do:

I will introduce them to a days of the week song, sung in the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". We will learn it and sing it together!

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday too.
Wednesday, Thursday just for you.
Friday, Saturday that's the end.
Now let's say those days again!
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday!

What YOU Will Do:

The students will all get a piece of construction paper which they will fold until they get 8 squares on it. In each square they will write a day of the week and draw a picture of what they typically do or what they like to do on that day!

Evaluation

Each student will be evaluated based on their activity that they are doing on their own: making sure each student knows the order that the days go in. Based on that I will grade them with either E-excellent, S-satisfactory, N-needs improvement, and U-unsatisfactory. Since this is a lesson plan for kindergartners there will be no formal grade.

Conclusion

Our students will have a basic understanding of the days of the week and what order they go in. They will be able to tell me what the previous day was, what today is, and what tomorrow will be.
