Let´s Mov(i) e to action!

Introduction

Learning a second language is not easy, especially when you do not know anything about it, or even worse, when you do not have any interest in learning it. Nowadays, thank you to the advance technology and tools we can make this learning process entertained and different, making sure you, the students, have fun while you learn. How much are you into movies? Are you aware that more than the 50% of the movies are originally in English? How cool would it be watching a movie in its original format? Have u ever done it? Or do you need subtitle? We will be working around those topic in this WebQuest!

Task

With the advance of the activity the students will realize how the subtitles help them to understand and be closer to the language. In this way, as already mentioned, students will be able to understand the language even more and improve their language skills, as well as learn new vocabulary.

As is well known, on several occasions it is possible that the dialogues of a film are not entirely clear, (depends on the accent of the characters, the use of slang...) .

In this actiity, the students will be paying more attention to the movie that normally due to the fact thta they have to carry out some activities afterwards. The objective of this is to show you that you can learn even doing something so generalized and normal as watching  a movie.

Process

1. To begin the students will visit the following website -> https://moviesegmentstoassessgrammargoals.blogspot.com/

2. On the website, students will find various activities related to the use of subtitles in movies but they can only choose 3 to work on them.  They will be working in groups of 3-4 students

3. They will have different option such as: Index 50: Past modals for regrets, Moana: Modals for prohibition and permission - can / can't-have to-must (not), Storks: used to for simple present, Hotel Transylvania 2: Simple Present, The Simpsons - The Springfield Files: Simple Past x Past Continuous...

4. After choosing the subject of work, students must complete in a separete word file the exercises shown in the blog (depending on the chosen theme)

5. As a second part of the activity, students should make a list of the concepts they did not understand during the video to discuss them in the next class.

6. When finished, students should send their work in a single Word file to the teacher and start preparing their presentation of it for the next session.

The design of this webquest is very simple, since everything will be in charge of the student. The teacher will be there to help any doubt that students may have during the process. This exercise could be finished between 30-45 minutes since it is based on  simple activities and practice.
