The Life Cycle of a Chicken

Introduction

"What came first, the chicken or the egg?"

You are a fourth generation chicken farmer! An 18-wheeler is coming to drop off hundreds of baby chicks. With your family history, you know that there will be many stages within the life cycle, from the egg to the chicken. However, you have you only been present to put pullets in the house, then take them out of the house when they are full grown. 

But, what day does the egg hatch or when does a chicken celebrate their birthday?

To truly understand your chickens, you are going to put yourself in their shoes (or paws!) to fully investigate the stages of their life cycle. 

Task

As you embark on this new adventure, after the baby chicks have been dropped off on the farm, you have been tasked to learn what it is like to be a chicken. 

1.  As you go through the life cycle of a chicken, pick three stages to reflect on, using the journal format provide, answer the following three questions in each entry.

2. As you learn of the life cycle of a chicken, create a poster with "real-life" images depicting what age state demonstrates.

Process

1. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to interpret and reflect on the experience of the cycles of stepping the in shoes (paws) of a chicken, through keeping a journal entry of three stages. 

As you go through the life cycle of a chicken, pick three stages to reflect on, using the journal format provide, answer the following three questions in each entry. 

1. What stage are you in right now? 

2. What are 1-2 exciting moments that are happening inside of you or around you right now? 

3. What stage will happen next?

2. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to create and analyze the life cycle of a chicken through a documentation demonstrating the life cycle.

As you learn of the life cycle of a chicken, create a poster with "real-life" images depicting what age state demonstrates. For each cycle stage, include the day that the stage occurred.
