You´ve been asked to organize a sight-seeing-tour through London.

Description: The main intention of this webquest is to get to know some of the most important sights of London. The students should become familiar to the city of London and learn something about London in general.
Grade Level: A2

Task

You are a group (2-3 students) of manangers and you have been asked to organize a sight-seeing-tour for a school trip

  • Think about interesting sights in and around London for 11 year old pupils. Choose four of the sights (the provided list of sights may help you) and create a portfolio and a poster on which you describe the sights. Use approximately 20 words and add pictures of each sight.

 

  • Afterwards, you are asked to present the portfolio and the poster to the class.

  • Furthermore, you should prepare a map and a location plan. You will have to find out which tube line or way you have to use to reach the place you want to visit.

 

  • The final step is a quiz about famous sigths of London.

 

 

Process

1. Find a group  (2-3 pupils)

 

2. Inform yourself with the little film and write down 5 important Facts! (click on the link/ video and watch the film)

 

3. Think about 4 sights of London with your group and choose 4 of them.

The provided list of sights may help you to find some sights.

4. Gather information on the sights.

Look at the web pages provided below, they will help you to search for information on the sights.

 

 

5. Create a portfolio and a  poster (A3) on which you describe each sight. Add a picture of each sight. 

                        Your portfolio should consist of 4 pages: one page for each sight!

7. Prepare a map and a location plan.

You will have to find out which tube line and / or  way you have to use to reach the place you want to visit. Your starting point is the train station called "King´s cross".

8. In a final step you will all do a little quiz to check what you have learnt about the sights of London. You can choose which quiz you will do. Use one link to do ONE quiz.

The aim of this webquest is to teach the students the famous sights of London.

They have to form groups of 2-3 pupils and create a portfolio and a poster. Both should contain four sights of London with a description of each sight in approx. 20 words and a picture of each sight. In the end students have to present their portfolios and posters and prepare a map and a location plan. They need to find out which tube line or way to use to reach the sigth. 

The final step is a little quiz. The quiz should help to tighten the student´s knowledge about certain sights.

 

For creating the poster the students have to work with the computer and the internet. So they can improve their internet search skills and computer skills. Furthermore, they have to show their ability to work in a team, their creativity and their ability to work independently.
