Today you will learn about mean, median and mode
We will be using these numbers through the example:
Tim spelling grade out 10 for five days.
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
7 4 7 5 7
The mean - is the one number that would best represent the data (information).
How to find the mean
1. Add the sum of the numbers . 7+4+7+5+7 = 30
2.Divide the sum by the numbers of addends. Addends is each number added.
sum - 30
addends - 5
so 30 divide by 5 = 6
The median - refers t the middle number. To find the median you first have to arrange the numbers from the least to the greatest
7, 4, 7, 5, 7
Put in order 4, 5, 7,7, 7 Which number is in the middle position? __________
7 is correct.
The mode refers to the number that appears the most.
4, 5, 7,7,7 Which number appears the most? _____________
7 appears the most.
Sometimes there are no mode: for example: 2, 7, 8, 6, 5, 3- all the numbers appear once.
