Moon Phases


Hello Students ! Welcome to the Moon! This assignment will help you take a trip to the moon in order to find and understand why our moon is illuminated and why it goes through phases. 

Read through each part, click on the links provided, and complete the exit ticket at the end to head back to Earth!

Part I:

Watch the video demonstration in the link below and in your science notebook explain how this model of the moon helps you understand the moon and why it goes through phases when being observed on Earth.  (5 sentences)



Part II: Click on the link to the website, read through the short article, and answer the review questions in your science notebook in order to learn about the moon and it's characteristics.


Review Questions:

  1. Why do we only see one side of the Moon from Earth?
  2. What are the Moon's terrae like in structure and rock type?
  3. How did the maria form?
  4. In what form is water found on the Moon? In what form is it not found on the Moon?



Part III:

Click on the link below to explore the moon simulation and notice what each moon phase looks like. Write down three observations in your science notebook to share with your group.
