Music collage

In this music lesson students will learn about collages.  Sound collage and  sound  picture collage. 



What is a sound pictures collage?



A sound picture collage refers to the use of pictures to make sound with the body, voice or other instruments.

In music, montage (literally "putting together") or sound collage ("gluing together") is a technique where newly branded sound objects or compositions, including songs, are created from collage (this is a technique of an art production, primarily used in the visual arts, where the artwork is made from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole), also known as montage. This is often done through the use of sampling, while some playable sound collages were produced by gluing together sectors of different vinyl records. In any case, it may be achieved through the use of previous sound recordings or musical scores.

Students will be asked to :

• Differentiate between a picture sound collage and a sound collage
• Create their own sound collage and picture sound collage
• Rehearse and perform with or without a score their own sound collage as well as those composed by others.
• Perform their own picture sound collage and sound collage solo or group for peer audience.
• Make an audio or video recording of their performance with the teachers assistance.

The teacher will begin her lesson with a warm up exercise. The teacher will instruct the students to close their eyes for five (5) minutes and listen to the sounds that they hear in their environment.

After the five minutes the teacher will instruct the students to open their eyes and write down all the sounds that they heard. After which the teacher and the students will participate in a discussion.

After this warm up exercise the teacher will go straight into her lesson. He or she will first tell the students what a picture sound collage is after that both students and teacher will engage in a discussion.

The teacher will explain and discuss to the students what a sound collage is.

It can be concluded that  learners know what a sound and a sound picture collage is. Students will  know that a sound collage refers to  different  sounds put  together and sound picture collage  refers to different sounds and pictures put together.
