My Mitosis Quest

Introduction

Like many things, cells wear out and die. If an organism is to live and grow it must reproduce. Therefore cell division serves an important role in an organism's health and growth. Cell division occurs rapidly in living organisms. For example, in an adult human, millions of cells divide each second to maintain proper cell balance.

A neat way to remember the steps of Mitosis is = PMAT---->

"People Must All Talk"

Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase.

 

 

Task

Essential Questions

  • Why is the cell cycle an important process?
  • How are interphase and mitosis related?
  • What happens in a cell during interphase?
  • What happens in a cell during mitosis?

Keep these questions in mind while you are going through your quest individually and answer them at the end of your research.

  2. Go to Mitosis/Cell Division and complete the reading activity. When you get a 100% raise your hand and I will check to verify.

  4. Now, on a loose sheet of paper draw and label the steps of Mitosis shown in the activity. Make sure to give all names and details.  Use the video and web resources to guide you.
  5. Answer the Essential Questions in the "Task" section. Answer in complete sentences to receive credit.*

When you are all finished, you may take the QUIZ. Raise your hand to ask Mrs. K for a copy, and you may use your notes and this webquest. When you are done, give your quiz to Mrs. K or Mrs. Riddle.
