Introduction

London... You have always wanted to visit such an awesome city and you have just found out that you and your classmates will be going next month.

Therefore, it's time to organise your trip! You and your classmates will organise a 5 day trip to London. You will have to book a flight, make a hotel reservation and plan activities for the entire week.

Task

You will plan a five-day trip to London with your school mates. You will have to book a flight, find out details about attractions in London, reserve a theatre ticket and find your way around in the London Underground. 

You will be divided into small groups and each group will present their options for the trip to the rest of the class.

Who can organise the most interesting yet cheapest trip? At the end you will all decide which trip is the best. 

When you talk to each other you can make suggestions and reply to them. You can use construction such as: Let's ¿How / What about + -ing? Why don't we...? Shall we...? For example: What about visiting Tower Bridge? or Why don't we take a tour bus? Your can answer by eithe accepeting them, rejecting them or with alternative suggestions. In your presentations you can express your plans with the Future or the  Present Continuous:  Will/will not. Be going to. For example: On Tuesday, we will visit the National History Museum or We are definitely going to visit Buckingham Palace.

 

Process

1. Booking your flight to London

First you need to book your flight to London. You need to decide whether to travel from Asturias, Bilbao, Madrid or Barcelona.

What to do:

You need to check the following airlines and decide which flight could be cheaper.

Visit  Londontown and click on 'Tours and Atractions' then go to Attraction tickets and look up the names of the attractions below and find out the price of a ticket for children. Then complete Worksheet B.

Now you need to find more information about some of the attractions to help you plan your trip.

Go to Google Maps and type in the name of the attractions mentioned below. What is the nearest tube station and which lines pass through the station?

5. Travelling around London by Tube

Travelling around London can take up a lot of your time. The London Underground (also called "the tube") is the easiest way to move around in the city.

You are going to make a few trips in London. Visit the Tube map and look at the map of the underground system.

You will start your trips from Bayswater Station.

6. A night out in London

London is famous for its nightlife. Shows are performed every night in the West End. You have to visit the site Londontheatredirect and make a theatre reservation for one of the shows.

Go to the site and click on 'Discounts' and answer the following questions.

1.    How many shows are listed? Write down 5 shows you would like to visit.


2.    Which shows offer the biggest discount? How many shows are for free?

3.    Make a reservation and write down the following information:
     

      Name of the show
      Name of the theatre
      Address of the theatre
      Price of your ticket
      Running time of the shows?

The evaluation will be carried out by completing the worksheets (A-F).

Each group will do a small oral presentation explaning the flights booked and the chosen sightseeing places to visit.

The rest of the class will decide which group planned the best trip.

This quest is meant for Spanish children on 3° ESO (English).

The aim of these exercises is to bring them into contact with 'real' English and compel them to read and look for specific information.

The tasks can be done in groups of 5 students where each student focus on one of the taks. Alternatively, it can be done in pairs so that all students do all exercises.
