Division

Introduction

One of the best ways to take on a sometimes overwhelming task is to break it down to where it is something that you can relate to. In this lesson you will take yourself home and come out a distinguished Division Student! Join the Division Fun with the Division Family: Dad, Mother, Sister & Brother.

Task

You are to complete the following five division problems using Long Division.  You will select one of the division problems that you have completed and you will teach your classmates  how to solve the problem using the Long Divison Family Method.

1.) 425/2

2.) 549/3

3.) 832/4

4.) 219/2

5.) 392/3

Process

 Your job is to make sure that you understand how to use the Long Division Family and are comfortable in teaching that to your classmates in a clear and precise way.  You will want to review basic subtraction, and multiplication to complete the process of Long Division.  You will need to introduce the Long Division Family to students as follows:  Dad = Divide, Mom= Multiply, Sister= Subtract, Brother=Bring Down

The following is a website that is available to help you teach the division process to your classmates.

After you have worked out all five Long Divison Problems using the Long Division Family, You will choose 1 division problem to present to your classmates. Choose a problem that you can easily break down each step and explain the division family.

Dad= Divide

Mom= Multiply

Sister= Subtract

Brother= Bring Down

You will present the division problem you chose to your classmates using the data camera.  You will need to explain the process correctly to other students.  Ask your classmates if they have any questions after you have completed the Long Division Problem.

Conclusion

After you have completed the task of solving division problems using the Fact Family, I hope you have a better understanding of the correct steps to go through to end up with the correct quotient for each problem.  Using a mnemonic device can help you in any math formula in the future.
