Introduction
Welcome to Ms. Natalie's Space Shuttle

Ready get set BLAST OFF!!!! Off we go into space to explore our planets, Astronauts. We know that our solar system has eight planets along with the sun and their moons. The planet we live in is called....? EARTH!!! That's right! While we circulate around our solar system, each one of you will learn the names of the planets in correct order. You will learn the names of the planets by using a rhyme to remember the correct planet order.
Teachers Objective:
- Students will gain knowledge about our solar system.
- Students will identify all eight planets in their proper order.
- Students will learn the method of My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos; this method will help students remember the planets in their proper order.
- Check for understanding- Teacher will ask students questions about the solar system during their adventure into space.
California Content Standard:
Third Grade Science
4.Objects in the sky move in regular and predictable patterns. As a basis for under standing this concept:
d. Students know that Earth is one of several planets that orbit the Sun and that the moon orbits earth.
Task
Alright Astronauts let's explore our solar system!!!!
Please keep this phase in mind, "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos."
Please watch this video titled "The Magic School Bus Gets Lost In Space." This video will provide you information about the planets and in their proper order.
[video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMr8XRo5uuk align:center]
Hope you guys have a wonderful time watching this video Astronauts.
As we move forward to the next slide please keep in mind some important facts about our solar system..
- Our solar system is made up of eight planets
- The spinning of the Earth makes night and day
- The only star we see during daytime is the Sun
- The planet we live on is Earth
- The closet planet to us is Mars
- Mars is known as the "Red Planet"
Process
We meet again my little Astronauts!!!
Let's review some of our vocabulary words:
Mercury
Venus
Earth
Mars
Jupiter
Saturn
Uranus
Neptune
Space
Solar System
Asrtronauts
As we are apporaching the end of this lesson, we need to work on worksheets and other activities to have a concrete understanding of where each planet is located and their correct spelling.
Please take 20 minutes and complete this worksheet.
Please refer to the phase I have provided below for some assistences.
"My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos".
My, Mercury
Very, Venus
Educated, Earth
Mother, Mars
Just, Jupiter
Served, Saturn
Us, Uranus
Nine, Nachos
Astronauts, please feel free to ask for any help.
When finished please watch the video that follows.

Do you guys notice a specific pattern here? Well, Astronauts these are the names and order of the planets in our solar system.
Now as we pass by each planet please repeat the phase I have mentioned above.
Ready lets start from the beginning...
Evaluation
All Right Astronauts put your clipboards away it is time for you assessments.
The first assessment we will take is true and false. Please circle true or false to the following statements.
- Our Solar System is made up of the sun and the nine planets along with their moons. True or False
- The spinning of the earth makes night and day. True or False
- Since the light is very bright from the sun, it makes our moon shine. True or False
- The star that we can see only during the day is the Sun. True or False
- We can have more than two planets on a orbit. True or False
- We live on the planet called Saturn. True or False
- Juptier is the second planet in the Solar System. True or False
- We have 12 planets in our Solar system. True or False
Our second assessment will be to input the name of the planet in the correct spot. (Here's a clue; My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nachos)
Alright class let's complete the following worksheets!
Have fun and remember you can always ask for assistance.

Conclusion

Buckle up Astronauts it is time to go home!!!!
Our expedition has came to an end. We came, saw, and conquered our Solar System.

All Right Class its time for Bloom’s Taxonomy
- Know= Astronauts we identified and counted the nine planets in our Solar System
- Comprehend=We estimated and located where the nine planets are
- Apply= We have established a new method to remember the nine planets, My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas
- Analyze= We have a clear understanding that each planets lies on their own Separate orbit along with their moon(s).
- Synthesize= I have created a special phase that will help you understand and organize the planets in order.
- Evaluate= We have assessed our knowledge using two strategies, 1st we took a true and false test & 2nd we named all the planets in the correct order by using our strategy, “ My, Mercury, Very, Venus, Educated, Earth, Mother, Mars, Just, Jupiter, Served, Saturn, Us, Uranus, Nine, Neptune, Pizzas, Pluto
