Interwar Years WebQuest

Introduction

The period of time between World War I and World War II is often referred to as "the interwar years." The events of these years - such as the Great Depression and the rise of Nazism, Fascism, and Communism - set the stage for the start of the second World War.

Task

The Smithsonian Museum is creating an exhibit about world history between the years of 1919 and 1938. A major feature of this exhibit is a wall-mounted timeline that features summaries and visuals of major events that occurred during the interwar years. The Smithsonian has hired you to create a draft of the featured timeline. The template for you to complete your draft is posted on Gaggle. You can add images and text to this template.

Process

The events that must be included in your timeline are:

  • U.S. Stock Market Crash/Great Depression begins
  • Great Purge in the Soviet Union
  • Italian Fascist Movement begins
  • Hitler and the Nazi Party Take Power in Germany
  • Franklin D. Roosevelt Enacts the New Deal
  • Russian Civil War
  • Stalin's First Five-Year Plan

These events must be placed on your timeline in chronological order (they are NOT listed above in chronological order).

Timeline Requirements:

For each event lised above, your timeline MUST include:

  • A Picture/Image: this picture should represent what happened at the event
  • Date/Year: If there is a specific date on which the event occurred, please use the format (month, day, year). If the event occurred over the course of several years, please use the format (year - year)
  • Description of Event: Include a brief summary of what occurred AND the significance of each event - why was it important?. Remember-this is going to be in a museum so keep it succient. Most people do not want to read lengthy paragraphs while viewing museum exhibits.

All of the requirements should be added to the template (posted on Gaggle) and submitted digitally. The tenplate is a Microsoft Word document, so you should be able to add text and images easily.

Below are links to websites and video clips that should help you gain an understanding of these events. Information can also be found in Chapter 34 of your textbook.
