English-Speaking Countries Around The World

Introduction

Hello people!

Welcome to our new webquest: English-speaking countries around the world and you will learn more about these countries where English is spoken.

Which countries have English as a first or second language?

What do you know of these countries?

Have you visited one of these countries?

What kind of information would you need to decide on a visit to the country and why?

Let's go together to prepare a wonderful trip!

Imagine that our class should prepare a school trip in an English-speaking country. You and three of your colleagues will be assigned to one of six possible destinations: Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa, and India. You should find basic information about your country and its main attractions to convince the rest of the class that your destination is the most interesting and exclusive to visit!

Through this webquest, you will learn more about the different English speaking countries besides the UK and US and you will organize how to plan a trip using all the features provided on the net.

Task

It is your job to convince your classmates that your country would be the best place to visit.

  • The class will be divided into groups of 05 students. As a group you will work together to explore your country and find basic information about it.
  •  You will surf on English web pages to find information about your English-speaking country.
  •  Once you have all the information, your group will have to design and create a travel brochure of its English-speaking country using the presentation editor Prezi and present it in front of the class.
Process

1- Make groups of five and read the following instructions to fulfil the mentioned tasks.

2- Each group will find information of one of these countries and each member will have to fulfil a task.

  • America: Canada
  • Europe: Ireland
  • Africa: South Africa
  • Asia: India
  • Oceania: Australia;  New Zealand

3- Each member of the group will take a role and carry out the required task to plan the best trip to one the English-speaking counties. So the first thing you need to do is to distribute and organize the following roles:

1. THE AMBASSADOR will be the person who provides the general facts of the destination: localization in a map, official language, capital city and other important cities, flag and symbols, climate, the population and the currency.

2. HISTORIAN is responsible for giving travel advice and providing cultural and historical facts of the destination: the most important traditions, the most popular sports and music, the typical food, etc…

3. TOUR GUIDE needs to find at least 3 tourist attractions or events at the desired destination. Remember that you need to research different activities, maps, schedules, prices…

4. TRAVEL AGENT will organize the trip: transportation to destination from Vitória/ES and booking accommodation (detail this information and final price using the following charts).

5. THE COOK will prepare a typical dish of the English country chosen by the group and to serve to all classmates tast it.

ALL MEMBERS will help each other to find out the specific information, collect some images, discuss their ideas and talk about what they have found. Decide how you are going to design your presentation and create it.
