Identifying and Serving Gifted Students

Introduction

In education, you will find a wide range of the meaning for the word "gifted" students.  There are many defintions out there.  In this webquest, you will explore and discover what is means for a student to be "gifted," their characteristics, and how the school system and parents can support gifted students.

Task

This webquest is created for future educators to explore and learn more about gifted students.

You will work in groups of two exploring the websites provided to 

1. Identify the charcateristics of gifted students

2. Identify teaching strategies to meet the needs of gifted students

3. Create a verbal presentation from your findings to share with your classmates

What information do you find most important to share with your classmates?

Evaluation

After researching with your partner, gather information and notes to put together a verbal presentation.

You will be evaluated by the following

1.  Identified characteristics of gifted students

2. Identified teaching strategies and explained or modeled with the classroom an example of one

3. Presented in a professional manner

4. Spoke loudly and clearly

5. Presented information found meaningful and beneficial to future teachers 

Conclusion

After the presentation, you and your classmates should have a good grasp on identifing and serving gifted students.  It is important not to ignore gifted students because they are already "smart."  Every student deserves fairness, meaning every student deserves a teacher that meets their individual needs.  Gifted students need differentiation from teachers and activities that will keep them working hard, and NOT getting bored because they already know everything.  Challenge them!  Take care of EACH ONE of your students!
